To prepare for our busy Fall planting, we’ve been double-digging beds non-stop since the Edible Garden Tour at the end of July. We still have a few more to finish before the grains go in during October. Our volunteers have helped us to sift the compost piles we’ve built up all year long. We have a substantial store ready to amend our beds (3 buckets per 100sqft, this year! Last year we only grew enough material for 2).
Last month we started most of our cool season vegetables in flats. We planted kale, cabbage, bok choi, chinese cabbage, broccoli, celery, leeks, onions, lettuce, spinach and more. So far this month we have transplanted the kale, cabbage, broccoli, chinese cabbage, lettuce, and spinach. We’ve put in a portion of our fava bean cover crops. It is refreshing to see the new seedlings, bright green and perky in the garden.
