We are getting ready to flat many spring grains. This year we are growing ancient Egyptian ‘Kamut’ wheat and drought tolerant -and delicious- ‘Sonoran’ wheat. Although the weather is warm at the moment, beware of surprise frosts until march. Any tender plants can be covered by ‘reemay’, a type of floating row cover, that can increase the temperature around plants by as much as 8 degrees F! We will also be planting our broccoli, kale, and cabbage. And, it’s almost time to cut down our compost crops and harvest finished compost for when our spring planting goes into full swing.
It’s not too late to get your seeds for your Spring planting season. Don’t forget to check out Bountiful Garden’s new 2016 catalog here for ordering seeds! The great thing about their seeds is that they are ‘Open Pollinated’ (see item #7), so you can save seeds from your plantings this year, and have next years crop be as good (or even better, if you practice seed selection).
