There are also some great plants that you can plant directly, including asparagus roots, artichoke roots, roses, strawberry roots, and more! Be sure you are protecting your plants against front, whether by covering them with garden fabric or your citrus with light-weight blankets.
And remember that now is the time to get your seeds for the upcoming year of planting. More and more heirloom seed companies are being acquired by GMO giants (read more about that here), so be mindful from whom you purchase your seeds. One way to be especially mindful is to make sure your seeds are open-pollinated. Common Ground Garden, when we don’t use the seeds we’ve saved, purchases seeds from Bountiful Gardens. Be sure to check out their new catalog here for ordering seeds!
